Our Dementia Choir announced to perform at It’s in Nottingham’s Christmas Market

It’s in Nottingham are excited to announce that Vicky McClure’s Our Dementia Choir will be performing at this month’s Christmas Market on Saturday 25 November 2023.

Our Dementia Choir was originally created by Vicky McClure as part of a BBC documentary in 2018, which saw the Nottingham-born star of This is England and Line of Duty explore music’s ability to combat the effects of dementia.

Since the documentary was aired, the choir has performed to an audience of 24,000 people at Nottingham’s Splendour Festival, entertained crowds at the city’s Theatre Royal and Hockley Hustle, and made numerous television appearances.

Along with several other live music performances, Our Dementia Choir will take to the Bandstand Stage at the Christmas Market at 4pm, to deliver a heartwarming and joyful show.

Commenting on the event, Vicky McClure said: “We are absolutely delighted that Our Dementia Choir has been asked to perform at the It’s in Nottingham Christmas Market on 25 November.  We love getting involved in everything ‘Nottingham’ and what better place than at our wonderful Castle! There is going to be a lot going on during the day and we hope you can come along and sing some Christmas carols and songs to get you into the festive spirit.

“Many thanks to It’s in Nottingham for making the market possible, including Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Castle – it is going to be a great event for the whole family!  Sing loud and sing proud everyone, with your very own Nottingham’s…. Our Dementia Choir!”

Visitors to the festive market can also expect performances over the two days from Fun Chorus, Carlton Male Voice Choir, Hope Community Choir, Sing it Bold Gospel Choir and Limelight Orchestra, as well as family-friendly street entertainment, Morris Dancing and free face painting for children.

The independent Christmas Market, organised by It’s In Nottingham, in partnership with Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Castle will be open from 10am to 7pm on Saturday 25 November and 10am to 4pm on Sunday 26 November.

Entry to the Christmas Market is £1, which includes access to the Castle on the day. Entry is free for Nottingham Castle annual pass holders.
