Staff at Nottingham City Homes are celebrating another great year of raising money for local charities.

This year’s chosen charity, which is decided yearly by staff at NCH, was Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes. The charity transports blood, organs and other important medical items between hospitals in an emergency, a service it provides for the NHS free of charge, run entirely by unpaid volunteers.

In the past, Nottingham City Homes has sponsored five local charities raising over fifty thousand pounds altogether – including £9,378.63 for Blood Bikes.

Staff have raised money in different ways all year, including a 25 hour sponsored walk around the city, collection donations along the way, making stops at housing offices and hospitals in Nottingham along the way.

The money will help fund the charity for some time as explained by John Devlin, Chairman of Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes:

“On behalf of Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes, I’d like to express my thanks for the amazing charitable work that has helped to secure a tremendous total value.

“From our partner groups around the UK, we believe that every pound raised for Blood Bikes can save as much as £5 for the NHS, so the funding could be worth over £47,000 in the long run.

“We will put this money to great use, helping to keep our extensive fleet on the road – saving lives as well as money! The amount raised could cover our fuel bills for eight months, pay our insurance for two full years for all our vehicles or, help us to deliver over 13,000 different items for the NHS, from critical supplied of blood products, through to neonatal samples for new-born babies

“In short, the help you’ve provided will make a massive difference to people’s lives across our county, and for a long time,”

Wade Adams, who works for NCH and volunteers for Blood Bikes in his spare time, said: “Blood Bikes is a vital charity and I’m happy we’ve managed to raise these vital funds for the service. It is such a good cause, that helps so many people and it’s something that’s close to me as I work for them in my spare time. I am proud of the work and support my colleagues have given this year’s charity”
