Short-term temporary parking restrictions are to be put in place on a number of roads surrounding Colwick Country Park to improve road safety.
Cones and signs will be put in place along Mile End Road and surrounding residential streets in response to extraordinary levels of parking from country park visitors.
Once in place, vehicles parking in coned areas on River Road, Ramblers Close, Colwick Manor Farm, Shakespeare Close, Tudor Close and Stratford Close, as well as on sections of Crosslands Meadow and Ozier Holt, could be subject to enforcement action.
Visitors to the country park can instead use car parks on Racecourse Road and off Daleside Road East.
Councillor Mike Adams, Vice Chairman of the Transport and Environment Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Colwick Country Park is popular with both city and county residents, and has seen an increased number of visitors enjoying the open space throughout the lockdown period.
“Due to this popularity, Mile End Road and its surrounding residential side roads have suffered from overspill parking for some time.
“We are taking direct action to address parking issues in the area, which include vehicles parking on paths meaning pedestrians have to walk in the road, and motorists facing obstructions while travelling through the area.
“In some instances, residents have also been unable to park on their driveways due to vehicles blocking access to these.
“It is important to stress that the Council will only use these sorts of emergency restrictions where there is evidence of a significant road safety problem.
“We encourage everyone to park sensibly and enforcement will only be used where there is evidence of vehicles ignoring these restrictions.
“Parking good practice is important to ensure that motorists and pedestrians can live, work and travel through Nottinghamshire safely.
