Parkinson’s UK’s Beeston Cafe has issued an urgent appeal for volunteers as it risks closing if more people don’t come forward.
The Cafe, which has been running for many years, has provided support to many local people living with Parkinson’s and their loved ones, who regularly attend, however volunteer numbers have been in decline.
Beeston Cafe is looking for a Café coordinator and general Volunteer helpers to help facilitate the cafe social session that takes place at Beeston Catholic Church Hall, Foster Avenue, Beeston, NG9 1AE. Meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 10 – 12 midday. From choosing a venue to spreading the word, the cafe coordinator role and all volunteers will be fully supported by Parkinson’s UK staff.
Volunteer roles are flexible and make a big impact as volunteers ensure people with Parkinson’s who live locally can access activities that make a real difference to them. They will also meet new people and develop valuable organisational and communication skills.
Debbie Gaskell, Local Volunteer Officer, Parkinson’s UK said:
“The Beeston social meeting is a lifeline for people in the local area who are living with Parkinson’s, but unless new volunteers step forward people could be left without the support they need.
“If you can spare a couple of hours a month, we’d love to welcome you to volunteer – because with your support we really can change lives.
“As well as making a big difference to people living with Parkinson’s in your local community, volunteering is a great opportunity to try something new, have new experiences, and meet new people. Join us today!”
Around 153,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with Parkinson’s, including 10,995 in the East Midlands.
