An investigation into a fatal collision on the M1 is continuing – and detectives would still like to speak to any witnesses who have not yet come forward.
Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the M1 between junctions 21a and 22 shortly before 10.45am yesterday (Sunday 7 May) following a report that a black Ford Mondeo had left the motorway and collided with a tree.
The occupants – a male driver and female passenger – were taken to hospital and the road was closed for several hours.
The passenger, in her 30s, died as a result of her injuries yesterday evening.
The driver remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Detective Constable Charlotte Wright, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “Sadly our enquiries are now centred around a fatal collision.
“While we have spoken to a number of people, I would still ask that anyone who was travelling on the motorway yesterday morning and saw what happened or who has dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the black Ford Mondeo prior to the collision occurring.”
