East Midlands Railway announced the incident at 6:31 am on Monday 21 October.
The train operator said:
“We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central and is disrupting our trains on the Norwich/Nottingham/Liverpool Lime Street route.
“Emergency services are en-route to manage the incident.
“Trains are unable to run between Manchester Oxford Road and Warrington Central in both directions.
“Some services may be diverted between Manchester Oxford Road and Liverpool Lime Street, the trains that will be unable to be diverted will be altered.
“At present we are expecting the line to re-open in the next 2 hours. As soon as the line is open again, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 09:00.”
