East Midlands Railway announced the incident this afternoon.
EMR said:
‘Sadly a person was hit by a train between Leicester and Kettering.
‘There was also a trespasser on the railway between Kettering and Market Harborough. This has affected services on our Intercity (London St Pancras – Sheffield/Nottingham) routes.
‘Network Rail and BTP have attended and made the route safe, and trains are now able to run again.
‘Services are now able to run via their normal route, in both directions. Significant delays of up to 45 minutes remain.
‘Services are subject to short-notice alterations and cancellations whilst we work to restore our advertised timetable, with train crews and trains displaced.
‘Now the line has reopened, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 19:00’
