Picnics and brass bands return to Nottinghamshire parks

Brass bands will be performing at a series of free Sunday afternoon concerts this summer in Mansfield’s award-winning Carr Bank Park and also at Berry Hill Park.

The performances, which have been organised by Mansfield District Council’s Parks department, will take place from May to September.

The summer programme is:

– Sunday 21 May: Whitwell Brass Band, Carr Bank Park bandstand from 2 pm to 4 pm.

– Sunday 25 June: Blidworth Brass Band, Berry Hill Park bandstand. The band will be performing as part of the Berry Hill Car Show which runs from 10 am to 4 pm.

– Sunday 20 August: Holymoorside Brass Band, Carr Bank Park bandstand, 2 pm to 4 pm.

– Sunday 10 September: Pleasley Brass Band, Carr Bank Park bandstand, 2 pm to 4 pm.

Cllr Andy Burgin, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, said: “What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than a picnic in the park, listening to a traditional brass band.

“It’s the perfect setting for a relaxing day out in the fresh air for all the family – including the dog! You could even get a few families together and make a party of it.”

There are lots of other family-friendly events taking place in parks across the district this year, including a free King’s Coronation celebration at Berry Hill Park on Sunday 7 May, from 12 noon to 4 pm, with live music, Punch and Judy show, fairground organ and much more yet to be announced.

Mansfield Woodhouse Community Development Group is also hosting a Coronation Party in the Park at Yeoman Hill Park, Monday 8 May, from 12 noon to 4 pm with on-stage entertainment, stalls, bouncy castles and rides.

Warsop Carnival is set to return once more to The Carrs, Warsop, on Sunday 2 July from 12 noon to 6 pm. Expect a King’s Coronation theme at this event with live music, arena attractions, stalls, rides and much more. Follow the progress as more is announced at www.warsopcarnival.co.uk.

This year’s Summer Festival events will be on Wednesday 2 August, at Titchfield Park for the return of the evening festival with music and movies in the marquee from 4 pm to 8 pm, Thursday 3 August, at Titchfield Park, from 11 am to 4 pm; and Wednesday 16 August, at The Carrs, in Warsop, from 11 am to 4 pm.
