Crews from Edwinstowe attended the incident.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
‘2000sq m of nature senselessly destroyed by deliberate fire setting on Ollerton Pit tip this morning.
‘No words.’
Once a former colliery site, Ollerton Pit Wood now has a wild strawberry walk, nesting water birds and a whole host of thriving wildlife and different plant species.
