Highways England had to wait for the vehicle to cool enough to be safe to move.
In an update HE said:
‘Recovery of the vehicle and load is commencing after the vehicle has cooled enough for safety. This is expected to take until around 1400 when we should be able to open the A1.’
One lane has since reopened.
‘The A1 is closed northbound at the junction with the A57 following a collision.
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called just before 2am today (8 September) to a report of a collision involving one lorry which left the carriageway and caught fire.
No one was injured in the incident but the northbound carriageway remains closed while the vehicle is recovered.’
