Crews are still at the incident and residents in Wollaton, Bilborough and Strelley are advised to keep windows closed.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
‘Last night and through the early hours of this morning ( 24 March ) fire teams from Stapleford and crews from Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire have been working hard assisting Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service with an industrial fire in Ilkeston.
“Around 8 fire engines have been tackling the blaze at Stanton Recycling, the incident remains ongoing throughout the day.
“Smoke plumes are being monitored with weather conditions, those in the area have been advised to keep their windows closed.

“Our specialist Welfare Appliance remains at the incident supporting operations.
