Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service have released images of the incident today.

Firefighting is continuing at Harrington Junior School in Long Eaton.

Firefighters were first called to attend a fire in the roof of the school at 12.12 hours today.

“Crews quickly got to work, surrounding the fire and have now brought the fire under control.

“Unfortunately two of our firefighters sustained minor injuries dealing with the fire and have been taken to hospital for treatment.

“We are continuing to work closely with partners including the Head Teacher of Harrington School, Erewash Borough Council, Emergency Planning, Public Health England and colleagues from Derbyshire police to bring the incident to the safest and quickest conclusion and we expect to be at the scene well into the evening.”

Six fire engines remain at the scene, supported by one aerial ladder platform, a water carrier, an incident command unit and a welfare unit to support crews on scene.

The school was evacuated and everyone was safe and accounted for.

Local residents are being advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke from the fire. People are also reminded to keep away from the incident in line with current government advice to stay alert and maintain social distancing.

A fire investigation into the cause of the fire will commence when it is safe to do so.
