The incident happened on Sunday 18 April.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
‘Crews from Stapleford and Ilkeston have been dealing with a car fire on the M1, both driver and passenger escaped with no injuries.
‘Two Breathing Apparatus and one Hose Reel was used to tackle the engine fire.
‘Highways England assisted operations by closing three lanes for crew safety as well as recovering the vehicle.’
