Pupils at Pierrepont Gamston Primary School were “launched” into Science Week with a special Rocket Day hosted by Nick from Steamco.
Nick spent the day working with children across the school, sharing stories about rockets, science and the power of imagination. His presentation reflected this year’s Science Week theme of curiosity, encouraging pupils to ask questions, explore new ideas and discover their interests through science.

During the event, pupils from Years 1 to 6 designed and built their own rockets in class before testing them outside later in the day. The school field became the launch site for the afternoon, where children gathered to watch their creations take to the air, with cheers and excitement as each rocket was fired skywards.
The day concluded with a demonstration launch of Nick’s “dynamite rocket”, which provided a dramatic finale and left pupils and staff impressed.

Children described the day as both exciting and educational, with several saying they had learned more about rockets and science through the hands-on activities.
The event was supported by the school’s PTA, whose fundraising helped make the Rocket Day possible. Staff said the experience provided an engaging way for pupils to explore science while celebrating curiosity and creativity during Science Week.
