Pizza shop window smashed after man reminded of social distancing rules

Police are appealing for witnesses and information.

Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an incident of racially aggravated criminal damage at a Stapleford takeaway.

Police received a report, just before 8 pm on Monday (6 April 2020), that a man entered Manor Pizza on Church Street and shouted abuse at a member of staff after being asked to only come into the shop one at a time.

The suspect then smashed a window in the shop before making off on foot. He is described as white, having stubble and was wearing a silver hoody.

PC Simon Widdowson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Businesses are already struggling due to the impact of coronavirus and now the owner of this takeaway is facing the added cost and inconvenience dealing with this mindless vandalism.

“The verbal abuse towards the member of staff was totally unacceptable. Racial incidents will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire and a lot of work is continuing across the county so we confront issues like these head-on.
