Plans to demolish restaurant and build 24-hour MacDonald’s and Starbucks near White Post Farm

Plans have been submitted for new Starbucks and McDonald’s drive-thrus close to a major Nottinghamshire road junction.

The two restaurants would be built on the land currently occupied by the Winner City restaurant, near Farnsfield.

They would be built close to the junction of Old Rufford Road and Mansfield Road.

An application to Newark and Sherwood District Council seeks permission to knock the current building down and erect the coffee shop and fast-food restaurant at either end of the land.

The developer claims it would significantly improve a site which is in a prime location to attract passing business.

The businesses would serve customers both indoors and at their drive-thrus.

The application was submitted by Burney Estates Ltd, and has been published on Newark & Sherwood District Council’s website this week.

The documents say it is an “under-utilised brownfield opportunity” currently occupied by an “unattractive building”.

Developers will hope to capitalise on the growing leisure industry in the nearby area, including White Post Farm, Robin Hood’s Wheelgate Park, and White Post pub.

“Approximately 40 new jobs would be created by the proposals whilst providing a trickledown effect into other businesses in the area, helping to boost the local economy,” documents say.

The site would have a total of 49 parking spaces, in addition to waiting spaces for those who have placed orders.

Both would have the potential to be open 24 hours a day.

The entrance to the site would be moved to the north to enable vehicles to enter and exit onto Old Rufford Road easier.

The plans are now available to view and comment on through the council’s website, and will be determined at a later date.
