Police appeal after man ‘hit to the head with a hammer’ near Bingham station

Detectives are seeking the public’s help after a man was hit to the head with a hammer.

It’s believed the attack happened in Station Street, Bingham, near the train station, at around 11.30pm on Friday (2 July).

It was reported the victim was involved in an altercation with a man before he was assaulted.

He was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Constable Georgina Gallagher, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an extremely serious and violent incident. We do not underestimate the impact this type of violence has on people and we would like to reassure the public that we will leave no stone unturned to locate those responsible.

“We believe this was not a random attack and that the victim and suspect are known to each other.

“We also believe there were lots of witnesses to this attack. I’m urging anyone who saw what happened or who may have recorded footage to please come forward and speak to us as they may have vital information to help shed light on the circumstances.

“I would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and we are doing everything possible to ensure the offender is brought to justice.”
