Police car pursuit and foot chase leads to arrest and stolen car recovery

A man has been arrested after a police chase that led to officers recovering a stolen car.

Quick-thinking officers spotted the vehicle shortly before 9am yesterday morning 29 June in Bowbridge Road, Newark.

Checks revealed it was stolen from an address in Saucemere Drive, Newark, about three hours earlier.

The Volkswagen Golf was pursued for several minutes at speeds reaching 50mph until the driver abandoned the vehicle.

Two men were seen getting out the vehicle and they both fled on foot.

Officers managed to arrest one of the suspects moments later.

Enquiries to trace the second suspect are ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Gary Hewson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Following a pursuit, a 17-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a house burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, driving dangerously and failing to stop. He remains in police custody.

“This was a great result and we were pleased to inform the vehicle’s owner that we had recovered it within a few hours of it being reported as stolen.

“Enquiries to trace the second man are ongoing. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 89 of 29 June.”
