A man has been arrested following an assault in Nottingham city centre.
Police were called to Old Market Square at 11.17 pm on Monday (4 May) following reports that a man had been attacked.
Officers found a man with head and facial injuries, and he was taken to hospital.
The victim, aged in his 40s, had suffered injuries which are not believed to be life-altering or life-threatening.
A suspect was located, and while detaining him, officers were subjected to threats and a police vehicle was repeatedly spat at.
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm, making threats to kill, threatening behaviour, racially aggravated harassment, and criminal damage.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Officers who attended the scene deserve credit for locating the victim and ensuring he quickly received the medical care he needed.
“They also worked efficiently to arrest a suspect, and he remains in custody.
“It is not believed that any weapons were involved, but this was a violent incident and we will not tolerate this sort of behaviour.
“A cordon was in place while investigations were carried out.
“Despite the arrest, our investigation remains ongoing, and it is important that anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any relevant footage, gets in touch without delay.
“The Old Market Square is likely to have been busy at the time, and we believe there will be people who can help with our enquiries.”
