Officers from Nottinghamshire’s roads policing unit describe their work yesterday.
Nottinghamshire Roads Police said:
‘Yesterday ( Sunday 4 September ) Team 2 had a theme of convoys.
‘First off, a stolen camper-van was sighted in convoy.
‘Both vehicles were stopped by Team 2 and Rota 1 Firearms Officers.
‘A good bit of teamwork means that this outstanding stolen camper-van is going back to its owner. Enquiries are on-going for the theft.
‘Then the Black BMW was sighted going North on the A1, this was in convoy with a silver VW. Both vehicles were stopped on the A1. It transpires the driver of the BMW was not insured on the BMW but was insured on the VW but had allowed the other driver to drive the VW with no insurance.
‘Cue us explaining that to them and then issuing BMW driver a Traffic offence report for no insurance and permitting the use of the other car being driven with no insurance.
‘And then the driver of the VW was reported for driving with no insurance. Vehicle seized.
‘The SGT in his far superior Roads Policing vehicle spotted a Skoda and a red van in convoy.
‘The SGT stopped both vehicles as they entered Dinnington.
‘This stop resulted in the Skoda driver being given a Traffic offence report for allowing a 3 year old to sit in a car with no child seat and the driver of the red van had his van seized as he was actually a disqualified driver.
‘Driver reported for no insurance and driving whilst disqualified.
‘The white BMW was located in Newark, everything with the vehicle was in order apart from the road tax which hadn’t been paid for several months.
‘As such this BMW was seized under DVLA powers.
‘The owner of this car can have the vehicle back once the road tax and back payments are paid. Make sure your vehicle is taxed.’
