Police dog detains suspected motorbike thief on off-road track

A suspect was chased down and detained by a police dog after a motorcycle was reported stolen.

The bike was reported missing from Harlaxton Drive, Nottingham, at 8am on Sunday (7 September).

Patrolling officers caught sight of two motorcycles on Billborough Road, Nottingham, just after 12.30pm and a brief pursuit commenced towards Strelley Hall.

Both bikes continued down an off-road track before one of them was abandoned. PD Jester was deployed and made short work of chasing down and detaining a suspect.

Another bike was recovered later on and an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft.

Curtis Thompson, 19, has been charged with handling stolen goods, failing to stop and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

Thompson, of no fixed address, was also charged with driving a motor vehicle in a public place without due care and driving without a licence.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 26 September.

Sergeant Nicholas Dachtler, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Thanks to the great teamwork between PD Jester and his handler, we were able to recover two suspected stolen bikes and bring a suspect into custody.

“Our dogs are a vital part of our crime-fighting efforts, especially when it comes to speed and agility.”
