Police dog detains suspects after West Bridgford doorstep parcel thefts

Police have thanked an observant member of the public for his help after charging two suspects with theft offences.

Officers were called to the Lady Bay area of West Bridgford at 3.25pm on Thursday (11 September) following reports two men had been stealing parcels from a doorway.

A man who lives on the street pointed out two suspects and they were detained with the assistance of Police Dog Jimmy around one mile away across a nature reserve.

Two parcels were recovered and we also found a bag full of items suspected to have been stolen earlier from a nearby shop.

Christopher Eyre, aged 38, of Pelham Road, and 37-year-old Evan Pidgeon, of no fixed address, have been charged with theft from a shop.

Eyre is also charged with a further count of theft and both are due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 2 October 2025.

Police Constable Tom Griffith said: “This was a good example of officers from different teams working together, and alongside members of the public, to arrest suspects.

“Their alertness and a prompt police response has allowed us to arrest and charge two people with theft offences.”
