Police dog Seth finds three suspects after 20 minute track through countryside

A police dog tracked through the darkness for more than 20 minutes before sniffing out three suspects.

PD Seth, who’s only been in the role for a little over a year, continued his outstanding start to working life by leading his handler along a riverbank, through a field, and over multiple fences.

Passing through dense undergrowth along the way, the two-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Malinois led his handler to the men on land near Snape Lane, Scrooby.

The men were subsequently arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving, and failing to stop.

A car containing a significant amount of cannabis was found nearby.

Police had been called shortly after 3 a.m. on Monday by a member of the public after a group of people were reported to have abandoned a car.

Seth, who has a growing reputation as an outstanding tracker, was placed on his long lead and led his handler across the ground until stopping at a hedgerow.

Two suspects were immediately detained, and a third was arrested a short time later.

Inspector Tim Ringer, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was another outstanding bit of work by Seth, who continues to go from strength to strength with us.

“One of his best recent results was a similar track along a busy main road – so it’s great to see him outdoing himself with such a lengthy track in almost total darkness.

“In situations like this, police dogs and their handlers really do come into their own.”
