A new police dog has helped to detain his first suspect.
PD Tuco, who competed training in July this year, was on patrol with his handler in the early hours of Wednesday morning when three suspects were reported to be interfering with a vehicle.
A suspect was spotted a short time later and pursued across West Bridgford’s Collington Way fields by PD Tuco and his handler.
With darkness all around, Tuco led his handler to a line of trees where a suspect was detained.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of vehicle interference.
Sergeant Nicholas Dachtler, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Dog Section, said:
“This was job well done by Tuco and his handler. Tuco remained on his lead throughout and was able to detain a suspect who may otherwise have gone undetected.
“As is invariably the case, the suspect in this case soon gave himself up when confronted by an opponent he had no chance of outrunning.”
Tuco, an 18-month-old Dutch Herder, was recruited by Dog Section after his previous owner realised he could no longer meet his needs.
