Police foiled a potential metal theft after responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle suspected to have false number plates.
The car had been spotted driving slowly into an industrial compound containing scrap metal in the Mansfield area before leaving the site.
Following enquiries, including use of a police helicopter, the vehicle was spotted on the A616.
Officers managed to catch up with it, shortly after 8pm on Thursday (30 June 2022), and followed it but the driver failed to stop.
A stinger was subsequently used to bring it to a halt and two occupants in the car were arrested a short time later after the vehicle had entered a field in the Newark area.
A number of tools were found after the car was searched by officers.
A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified, going equipped for theft, theft of a motor vehicle and criminal damage.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
Chief Inspector Heather Maelor, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great bit of work by officers which really highlights just how seriously we treat rural crime.
“It also shows how we will always do everything we can to prevent crimes from happening in the first place, protect our rural communities and take positive enforcement action to crack down on this sort of criminality.
“We understand the impact rural crime can have on victims and their livelihoods, including landowners and businesses, and I’d like to reassure people that the force, working closely with partners, remains committed to tackling this issue and seeking justice for victims.”
