Police were guided by the helicopter and caught the suspects red-handed.
Police in Bassetlaw said:
‘On Thursday 15 December Bassetlaw police along with Nottinghamshire Roads Policing Unit and our Police helicopter were carrying out a proactive operation on the A1 and Blyth services.
‘This is in response to reports of fuel thefts in the area.
‘The helicopter spotted two quad bikes dragging trailers at the back of Blyth services so officers directed by the helicopter went to find the suspects.
‘The offenders on spotting the helicopter ditched their trailers with containers and syphoning equipment and made off on their quads.
‘We will be out again disrupting offenders.’
