Police helicopter tracks stolen motorbike to city centre

Two teenagers have been arrested after a stolen motorbike was recovered in Nottingham city centre.

Local police officers spotted the motorbike this afternoon which had been stolen from outside a nursery school in Clifton yesterday.

It was reported three males were on the motorbike, which sped off when police arrived.

A police helicopter monitored the motorbike which travelled into the city centre, where it was abandoned in Glasshouse Street outside the Victoria Centre.

Officers entered the centre and arrested two teenage boys on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without a licence or insurance.

Inquiries to trace the third male are continuing.

Chief Inspector David Mather said:

“This was an excellent team effort involving several Nottinghamshire Police units and the National Police Air Service who all worked together to bring this incident to a safe conclusion and quickly detain two suspects.

“Nottinghamshire Police takes any incidents of this nature very seriously and will take robust action against anyone who commits such offences.

“Not only does it put the rider and passengers at risk of serious harm but it also endangers the public.

“As our response to the incident demonstrates, we are committed to protecting the public and will look to take appropriate action against anyone who threatens public safety in this way.”
