The M1 in South Yorkshire is closed between J36 and J37 near Barnsley due to a Police led Incident.
AA Roadwatch reports:
‘Road closed and queueing traffic due to police incident on M1 both ways from J36 A61 (Barnsley South / Hoyland) to J37 A628 Whinby Road (Barnsley / Dodworth). The road has now been fully closed after an incident at 19:15.’
South Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Services are in attendance.
National Highways has Traffic Officers deployed to assist.

Northbound traffic is being diverted via the solid square diversion symbol:
- Driving northbound, exit the M1 using junction 36 exit slip road and proceed to the end of the slip road.
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A61 (Westwood New Road) and proceed until the junction with the A616.
- At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the A616 and proceed to the junction with the A629.
- At the junction turn left for the A629 onto the loop road and then turn left again onto the A629 (Halifax Road) and proceed to the junction with the A628 (Hoylandswaine Roundabout).
- At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A628 (Barnsley Road) and proceed until the junction with the M1 Motorway (junction 37).
- At the roundabout, take 1st exit to rejoin M1 northbound.
Southbound traffic is being diverted via the hollow triangle diversion symbol:
- Driving southbound, exit the M1 using junction 37 exit slip road and proceed to the end of the slip road.
- At the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto A628 and proceed to the roundabout with the A629.
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto A629 (High Lee Lane) and proceed to the junction with the A616.
- At the junction, turn right onto the loop road for the A616 and proceed to the end of the loop road.
- At the end of the loop road, turn left onto A616 and proceed to the roundabout with the A61.
- At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto A61 and proceed to the junction with the M1 Motorway (junction 35A).
- At the roundabout, take the 1st exit to rejoin M1 southbound at J35A.
