A dispersal order has been put in place as part of ongoing work to prevent and reduce antisocial behaviour in Kimberley.
The order, which will run from 4 pm today (7 November) until midnight, means that officers can move people away from parts of Kimberley and – in the case of under-16s – return them to their homes to prevent alarm, harassment, and distress being caused to others.
Anyone who fails to leave when directed can be arrested.
The eight-hour order covers Main Street, Newdigate Street, Noel Street, Broomhill Road, Greens Lane, Regent Street, James Street, Chapter Drive, and High Street.
Neighbourhood policing sergeant Simon Boyles said: “Over the last two weeks, we have received reports of antisocial behaviour, criminal damage, and violence in the Main Street area, as well as disorder taking place around the car park area at the rear of Sainsbury’s and the council car park area in Greens Lane.
“This order is a preventative tool, giving us additional powers to prevent, deter, and reduce any disorder and to move people on if they are causing any issues in these areas.
“We are continuing to take this antisocial behaviour seriously and we will authorise further dispersal orders to protect our communities if we feel this is necessary.
“Our proactive patrols will continue, and I want to reassure members of the public that we will take appropriate action against individuals who cause safety concerns and misery for local people and businesses.”
