A suspect has been charged after a Radford flat was burgled and a police officer assaulted.
A watch, trainers, clothing and perfume were all stolen from inside a property in Ilkeston Road, Radford.
The owner of the flat called the police after discovering the break-in, around 6.30pm on Sunday (12 April).
Having conducted initial inquiries, officers returned to the area to conduct searches on Monday (13 April) morning.
These resulted in a suspect being identified and approached at a nearby shop, where attempts were made to detain him.
It was while this arrest was being completed that an officer was then struck in the face and grabbed around the throat.
Suspect Michael Roberts was duly charged with burglary, intentional strangulation, and assaulting an emergency worker.
Roberts, of HMP Ranby, was recalled to prison, following the incident.
The 57-year-old attended Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (14 April).
He will next appear before Nottingham Crown Court on 12 May.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“No police officer or any emergency worker for that matter should have to put up with being assaulted while doing their job.
“The PC in question during this incident was strangled and hit in the face while making an arrest.
“This level of violence is completely unacceptable and will never be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police.
“Likewise, burglary is a very serious offence that deserves to be treated as such, so we’re pleased to have been able to charge a suspect in this case.”
