Police officer hit in the face while attending assault incident

An officer was reportedly hit in the face as they attended reports of an assault.

Police were called to Broxtowe Lane, Broxtowe just before 8.25pm on Wednesday (20 October 2021) to reports that a man had assaulted a woman.

As a 49-year-old man was being arrested on suspicion of assault, it is alleged that an officer was struck around the face, causing minor injuries.

Sergeant John Bridgewater, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Assaults are taken extremely seriously, and as a result, our officers were swift to attend an incident where this was reported to have happened to a woman.

“It is not part of the job for an officer, whilst simply doing their job and helping the public day in and day out, to be subject to abuse. It is therefore appalling to hear reports that an officer was assaulted whilst responding to this incident.

“There is never an excuse for this behaviour and, as we have previously shown, we will take robust action against anyone who assaults an emergency worker.

“Our enquiries into this incident continue.”
