Patrolling officers seized knives, a hatchet, CS spray and a meat cleaver from a car after being alerted to a suspected banned driver out on the roads.
The vehicle was initially spotted in Leeming Lane South, Mansfield, at 12.35 am on Monday (9 February), and checks revealed the driver could be disqualified.
Officers followed the vehicle towards Warsop, and it eventually stopped in Meden Avenue.
While detaining one of the two men inside the car, an officer was punched in the face.
The man was arrested, and a flick knife was then recovered during searches.
The vehicle was also later searched, and a further knife, a meat cleaver, CS spray, a metal bar and a hatchet were discovered to be concealed inside.
A 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault on an emergency worker, possession of a knife in a public place, driving while disqualified, drug-driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
A second man, aged 49, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possession of a noxious substance.
Inspector Alice Bartle, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“The response officers’ diligence on duty has allowed us to make two arrests and recover a number of offensive weapons.
“There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to be driving around the county’s roads with items like these inside the vehicle.
“Unfortunately, while making the arrests, an officer was injured. We will not tolerate any assault on our officers, or any other emergency worker, and will always pursue those responsible.”
