A suspect was tracked down and detained around an hour later and placed in the back of a police car.

A police officer was kicked in the head and another officer was spat on after a suspected thief was detained.

Officers were called to Sherwood Rise, Forest Fields, shortly after 7.45pm yesterday (Wednesday) after receiving reports of a theft.

A suspect was tracked down and detained around an hour later and placed in the back of a police car.

As the officer driving the car made his way to the new Radford Road custody suite he was kicked in the back of the head.

Several hours later another officer was spat and stamped on as he sat with the suspect in a cell.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of three counts of assaulting an emergency worker and one count of theft.

She remains in police custody.

None of the officers were seriously hurt.

Sergeant James Rimmington, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our officers go to work every day to protect and serve the public. They simply do not deserve to be physically assaulted or spat at in their workplace.

“As we have shown repeatedly in the past we will take robust action against anyone who assaults a police officer or a fellow emergency worker.

“Whatever the circumstances there can be absolutely no excuse for this kind of behaviour and we will continue to do everything we can to crack down on it.”
