Police operation in Sneinton responds to community concerns

Neighbourhood police officers acted on concerns raised by the community to carry out an operation targeting shoplifting, antisocial behaviour and speeding.

Uniformed and plain clothed officers in Sneinton conducted extra patrols and other proactive measures to reassure residents and gain more information on the crime issues in the neighbourhood.

The day of action saw officers target persistent shoplifters and carry out high-visibility patrols in known crime and antisocial behaviour hot spots.

Officers concluded the day with a speeding operation in Daleside Road, which has been named as a notorious location for speeding and other motoring offences.

Sergeant Karl Browne, who has recently taken on the role of neighbourhood sergeant in Sneinton, said it was vital the community felt safe and listened to.

“I wanted to carry out this day of action soon after taking on my new role, and having spoken to members of the public, businesses and community leaders about the policing priorities which really matter to them,” Sgt Browne said.

“The operation was a direct result of these conversations and was about being out and about and visible in our community.

“We swept the area on 24 October and it was a great success.

“We gained valuable intelligence and hopefully reassured people who live and work in Sneinton that we are responding to the crime issues which matter to them.

“We know the problems persistent shoplifters can cause to local businesses, so spent a large part of the day targeting these individuals.

“Later in the day we carried out a roadside speeding operation in Daleside Road, as this location has been highlighted as a hot spot for offending time and again.

“We want this area to be the best it can be as a place to live and work. Police teams in the community work hard every day to ensure that continues to be the case.”
