Police operation targets Hyson Green street offences

An operation targeting street crime in the Arboretum, Radford and Hyson Green area of Nottingham has been going from strength to strength.

Since it was set up in June 2018, Operation Lumination has carried out 110 arrests. This dedicated proactive team, which consists of one Police Sergeant, three Constables and one PCSO already working in the Neighbourhood team, was set-up to focus on disrupting and dismantling criminal activity in the within the City Central Neighbourhood Policing area.

The Street Offences Team has been involved in various incidents including the arrest of a Polish male wanted for manslaughter in Poland and the arrest of a burglar who was named as the Force Most Wanted. The team have also made arrests in connection with Child Sexual Exploitation and carried out several visits with officers from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority and Trading Standards.

A quantity of knives and other offensive weapons have also been seized along with drugs and work continues to close problem addresses connected to drug use after warrants were executed at those locations.

The team has also seized 48 vehicles for various offences.

Neighbourhood Inspector Riz Khan said: “There is a clear need for increased and highly visible policing within the Arboretum, Radford and Hyson Green area to help reduce crime, antisocial behaviour and improve the quality of lives for people living in the area. Therefore, community engagement will also be ‘key’ to building and developing intelligence.

The team is committed to making a difference on the streets and I cannot praise them enough for their enthusiasm and everything they have done which has really made a positive difference. Hopefully residents and visitors have started to feel the results of this hard work.
