Police praise bravery of survivors after rapist jailed for 33 years

Detectives have praised the incredible bravery and courage of three rape survivors after their abuser was locked up.

Keith Wain pleaded guilty to eight counts of rape of a girl aged 13–15, five offences of rape of a girl aged 16 or over, six counts of assaulting a girl aged under 13 by penetration, and three offences of adult sexual activity with a girl aged 13–17.

Wain, formerly of north Nottinghamshire, carried out the abuse in the 2010s and 2020s.

He was given an extended 33-year sentence when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Wednesday, 20 November.

Wain will also have to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.

Detective Constable Janet Percival, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“First and foremost, I want to pay tribute to the survivors in this case who have shown incredible strength and courage throughout the investigative and criminal justice process.

“They have all gone through truly horrific and traumatic ordeals at Wain’s hands. It is thanks to them that he will now be behind bars and no longer able to cause harm.

“Although no sentence can ever make up for what happened to these survivors, I hope this result can give them some form of closure now that this dangerous and manipulative sexual predator is facing a significant amount of time behind bars.

“I also hope it gives encouragement to any other survivors of abuse that they can come forward and report offences to us in the confidence that we will listen carefully to them, we will investigate, they will be supported, and we will do everything in our power to seek justice for them.”

There is a rape and sexual assault reporting tool on the Nottinghamshire Police website where offences can be reported. Here, victims can tell police what has happened to them or to someone else.

People can report anonymously, without giving their details.
