Police investigating an assault seized an air gun from inside a house.
Officers were called to Melrose Street, Sherwood, at around 9.15 pm yesterday (6 January) following reports a woman had been injured.
The victim suffered bruising to her legs after being hit with an object while she was also reportedly threatened with a pistol inside the property.
Armed police were deployed as a result, with officers carrying out a search of the house and finding a BB gun.
A 35-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
He remains in police custody.
Inspector Iain Blackstock, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“As the public should be able to expect, our officers will always respond robustly to any reports we receive about a suspected firearm.
“There is simply no excuse for anyone to threaten someone with a firearm, real or otherwise, or indeed to behave in a violent manner at all.
“This incident should serve as a warning to anyone thinking of brandishing an imitation firearm that this will always be met with swift action by Nottinghamshire Police.
“We have now arrested a suspect as part of this investigation, but our inquiries remain ongoing, so we’d ask anyone with information that could assist us to get in touch immediately.
“Information can be left by calling the police on 101, quoting incident 732 of 6 June 2023, or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
