A man was arrested by police after drugs were found inside a sock he was holding in the street.
Officers inside a police van were at a red light along Radford Boulevard, Nottingham, when they saw two men acting suspiciously.
One was a known drug addict and so the officers believed a drug deal may have been taking place.
Their suspicions increased when the two men began walking away after spotting the police car.
The officers approached the men and carried out a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
One of the men, aged 24, was carrying a black sock and inside were three wraps of heroin.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
A quantity of cash and three mobile phones were seized from the suspect, along with the drugs.
The man was taken into custody for questioning and later bailed pending further inquiries.
The arrest was made by the Operation Compass team, which proactively tackles issues such drug-related crimes in Nottingham.
Inspector John Lees, who oversees the team, said: “This was an excellent piece of police work by the officers and has allowed us to recover a quantity of harmful Class A drugs.
“The use of drugs continues to cause huge damage to the lives of vulnerable people in our communities and as a force we continue to work hard every day to catch drug dealers and place them before the courts.”
