Police stop van on A52 and discover illegal vapes and cash

Police seized a haul of illegal vapes and arrested a suspect after stopping a van and acting on their instincts.

A report was received from a member of the public about a van seen travelling at half the speed limit and weaving all over the road.

When officers stopped the van on the A52 Derby Road, in the Beeston area, they immediately smelt cannabis coming from the back of the vehicle and suspected the driver may have been under the influence of drugs.

Following a search of the van a large amount of cash was recovered along with a large quantity of vapes. It was found the majority of the vapes were illegal in the United Kingdom.

The driver also tested positive for cannabis after officers conducted a roadside drug wipe.

When officers searched a property linked to the driver more boxes of vapes were found.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and possession of criminal property after Thursday night’s van stop (4 August 2022).

Temporary Detective Inspector Andy Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a great example of how good old fashioned police instincts are invaluable in helping the force to crack down on crime on our streets every day.

“To have made an arrest and recovered a substantial haul of illegal vapes is a great result and we are now thoroughly investigating this case.”
