Police are urging people to be vigilant as investigations continue into a series of attempted shed and garage burglaries in the Stapleford area.
Inquiries are ongoing to trace two youths suspected to have targeted properties between 23 September and 7 October.
Among the incidents being investigated are a shed break-in, during the early hours of 3 October, and a garage burglary, overnight between 23 and 24 September. Entry was gained but thankfully nothing stolen during these incidents.
A number of attempted break-ins have also been reported.
It’s believed addresses have been targeted with intent to steal motorbikes and tools.
Officers are currently treating the incidents as linked and are working hard to trace two suspects wearing face coverings and dark clothing at the time of the offences.
Reassurance patrols have also been stepped up in affected areas.
PC Dean Bardill, of the Beeston neighbourhood policing team, said: “We’re urging residents to take positive action to protect their properties and make sure they are not an easy target.
“Never leave sheds or garages unlocked, especially if they connect to your property, and please ensure all property, especially bikes and tools, are secured each day.
“We would advise residents to consider alarms for their sheds and garages to deter offenders and, if possible, padlock and secure any side gates or access to rear gardens.
Exterior security lighting and doorbell cameras can also act as a deterrent.
“Preventing and driving down burglaries is one of our neighbourhood policing priorities. The impact and consequences of burglary on victims, particularly the trauma and emotional upheaval it can cause, is why we treat it so seriously.
“I’d like to reassure people that we are continuing to work hard to catch the offenders responsible for this recent series of incidents and bring them to justice.
“We’re appealing for residents to also be vigilant and also for members of the public to report any suspicious incidents or activity to us. If you see any suspicious activity or have any concerns then it’s really important that you get in touch with us and report this as soon as possible.”
