Britain’s biggest and most prestigious cycling race is set to return to Nottinghamshire on Thursday (8 September 2022).
Stage five of this fantastic spectacle, featuring some of the sport’s leading names, will start and finish in the same places – West Bridgford and Mansfield – as it did four years ago, albeit with a different route that takes in Cotgrave, Gedling, Southwell, Retford and Worksop.
Riders will then head into Mansfield via Clumber Park and Sherwood Forest.
The fifth stage of the race will see riders tackle a 186.8km route – approximately 116 miles – after setting off from Central Avenue in West Bridgford at 10.45am on Thursday.
It’s anticipated to finish in Chesterfield Road South in Mansfield at around 3.30pm.
Chief Inspector Jon Foy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “While the plan is to keep traffic delays to a minimum there is likely to be some disruption as the riders pass through Nottinghamshire.
“Our trained officers will be out supporting the race and will be on hand to assist where needed.
“We are recommending for drivers to leave themselves plenty of time for their journeys on Thursday and to set off earlier to minimise disruption.
“Anyone driving to and from spectating points should also allow plenty of travel time if they are moving to different locations and, where possible, spectators should park well away from the route.”
Stage one of this year’s Tour of Britain race set off from Aberdeen yesterday (Sunday 4 September). The eighth and final stage of the race will finish on the Isle of Wight on Sunday (11 September)
The Tour of Britain is being televised live on ITV4 in the United Kingdom and around the world by Eurosport and the Global Cycling Network (GCN).
Cycling enthusiasts will be able to watch every moment of the 2022 race on ITV4 which will also be showing highlights from each stage during the evening.
