Police watchdog appeals for witnesses to Carlton incident after man died following arrest

The newly formed Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), formerly the IPCC –  launched an investigation after a referral from Nottinghamshire Police, in line with standard practice when a death or similar incident occurs.

A man was arrested following reports of a collision in Carlton, he later became unwell en route to the custody suite, he then died later at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre.

The IOPC is appealing for witnesses to the incident to provide any information they may have about the case.

IOPC director for the Midlands, Derrick Campbell, said: “Our investigation is looking at the contact between police officers and the man prior to his tragic death. “I would like to express my condolences to his family, friends any anyone else affected.

“We have met with the family to explain our role and our thoughts remain with them.”

The IOPC needs to hear from anyone who saw any interaction between the man and police officers near the church at the time the ambulance arrived.
