Councillor Philip Owen, Committee Chairman for Nottinghamshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Services, has offered his congratulations to young people in schools and colleges across the county who have been receiving their A level and other examination results today (Thursday 15 August).
Coun Owen said “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all our young people who have worked tirelessly over the last few months to attain their good results. I know it has taken lots of hard work and commitment.
“Many young people will be starting new courses at colleges and universities and others will be starting apprenticeships which offer work -based learning through colleges or with employers.
“The County Council also offers a range of apprenticeship opportunities, which is a way to gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed to get into many careers. They combine work, training, and study, letting you earn while you learn.
“If, however, you haven’t achieved the results you were hoping for I’d urge you not to be discouraged. There are still opportunities to choose other courses at college or university. It’s also important to consider that university isn’t for everyone – increasingly students are giving a lot of thought to the route that right for them to get them where they want to be in terms of their future career.
“Taking a gap year is also a consideration and they don’t automatically have to be taken abroad. There are a number of local and national charities and voluntary organisations which offer highly valuable experiences, so it is worth thinking about those.
“I would also like to publicly thank the teachers who have supported the young people and provided the learning opportunities they have benefited from. Our teachers are dedicated and committed to their students’ success.”
