A prolific shoplifter has been returned to prison just days after his release after he committed new offences.
Peter Boumphrey was jailed for 30 weeks on 31 March after he was found to be in possession of a Stanley knife in Nottingham city centre.
The 51-year-old, who has numerous shoplifting convictions, was released on licence on 19 June with strict conditions, which included attending appointments with a supervising officer.
However he failed to attend and so he was recalled to prison with Nottinghamshire Police tasked with locating him and bringing him into custody.
On Monday (23 June), officers from the City Centre neighbourhood policing team spotted him in Clumber Street and detained him.
He has now been returned to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.
PC Steve Dyer, of the City Centre neighbourhood team, said:
“Boumphrey is a prolific offender who has shown a complete disregard for the law by failing to comply with his licence conditions.
“I hope this action reassures local businesses and members of the public that we are doing everything we can to protect them from persistent offenders.”
