Public praised after 999 call leads to stolen truck arrests

Five men were arrested and a stolen truck recovered following a well-timed 999 call from a concerned member of the public.

Police were called at 12:41am on Wednesday after a group of men were reported acting suspiciously around a parked tow truck off Western Boulevard.

Officers examined the vehicle and found it had a missing licence plate and a flat tyre.

The occupants of a passing car were seen paying close attention to the scene and were followed by the crew of an unmarked police vehicle.

The car was boxed in near the Hilton Hotel on Nuthall Road, and four men were detained.

A fifth man was detained following a foot chase after fleeing the vehicle at a set of red lights.

Multiple car keys, gloves, and camouflage clothing were recovered.

Both vehicles involved were seized and five men – aged 52, 40, 39, 38, and 29 – were arrested.

Inspector Chris Chell, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The person who called this in did an excellent job and played a vital role in returning this vehicle to its rightful owner.

“Things like this that don’t quite look right usually aren’t, so it’s always worth ringing them in so we can check them out.”
