Police were pursuing the vehicle when a quad bike was jettisoned and rolled toward the car.
Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said:
‘Grindleford. Quad bike stolen from Brassington, loaded into van.
‘We knew we’d found the van involved when the quad was chucked out the back at us, shortly followed by a lump hammer smashing our windscreen.
‘Van later found abandoned.
One police officer in the car suffered minor injuries from flying glass fragments.
