Radford: Police pursuit leads to discovery of BB gun and 100 drug deal bags

Police arrested two suspects and seized large hauls of drugs and a BB gun after acting on their instincts.

Response officers were on patrol in the Radford area, at around 9.45pm yesterday (Tuesday 16 April 2024), when their suspicions were aroused by a car which appeared to have a defective headlight.

They activated their blue lights for the driver to stop but they failed to do so.

The officers followed the Toyota Yaris which was driven dangerously before it eventually came to a stop minutes later after going down a dead end.

The passenger ran off but was detained following a brief foot chase. When officers searched his backpack they found a large amount of cannabis – around 100 deal bags – as well as a BB gun.

The driver was arrested at the scene and subsequently tested positive for cocaine and cannabis following a roadside drugs wipe.

Further good investigative work led to officers searching the suspects’ addresses where they recovered more items including deal bags of cannabis and a large quantity of cash.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis, having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, and failing to stop for police.

A 46-year-old man was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, drug driving, failing to stop for police, possession with intent to supply cannabis, and possession of an imitation firearm in a public place.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “These arrests and seizures are an excellent example of officers trusting their instincts after spotting something that looked suspicious.

“Thanks to some good old-fashioned police work, two suspects were quickly detained and a substantial amount of illegal drugs have been taken off our streets.”
