East Midlands Railways say that emergency services are at the scene.
East Midlands Railways said:
‘We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train.
‘This has occurred between Stoke-On-Trent and Crewe and is disrupting our trains on the Newark Castle / Crewe route.
‘Emergency services are on site now and managing the incident.’
They added in a service update:
‘How does this affect my train?
Trains running through the area in the Crewe direction cannot run between Stoke on Trent and Crewe.
Trains running through the area in the Stoke on Trent direction cannot run between Crewe and Stoke on Trent.
Trains running from Stoke on Trent in the Derby direction can run as normal.
At present we are expecting the line to re-open in the next 2 hours. As soon as the line is open again, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 21:30.’
