Rail: Train and car collision at level crossing delays Norwich – Nottingham – Liverpool EMR train services

An incident at a level crossing is causing problems on rail services.

East Midlands Railway said at 3:15 pm on Tuesday 15 October:

‘We have received reports of a collision at a level crossing near March. This is between Peterborough and Ely and is disrupting our trains on the Liverpool / Nottingham / Norwich route.

‘Network Rail are aware and are sending a team to site, they are expected to arrive at 15:40. The British Transport Police are also making their way to the area, they are expected to arrive at 15:25.

‘Trains running through the area in both direction cannot run between Peterborough and Ely.
At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next 2 hours. As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 18:00.’

Network Rail said:

‘A train hitting a road vehicle at a level crossing between Peterborough and Ely means that all lines are currently closed.

‘As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

‘Disruption is expected to continue until 18:00.’
