Record breaking Little Ruggers session At The Bay

The award-winning Nottingham Rugby in the Community Little Ruggers programme, saw its biggest ever number of participants last Saturday, with almost 70 under-5s and their parents taking part in the youngsters’ rugby sessions at Lady Bay Sports Ground.

The successful, award-winning Little Ruggers programme has just returned to The Bay this month, having moved to Saturday mornings, which has proved to be a shrewd move, as parents and children flocked to the home of Nottingham Rugby, with many of the youngsters getting their first ever taste of the sport.

The aims of the sessions are to help improve key basic sporting skills, develop agility, co-ordination and balance, along with taking part in healthy activities. The sessions are led by qualified rugby coaches, however, parent and guardians are required to guide and take part in the activities to help to develop these skills.

Speaking about the weekend’s very popular first session, Nottingham Rugby General Manager Steve Smith said:

“It’s absolutely fantastic to see such a big response to our sessions here at The Bay. We’ve already helped introduce regular and successful sessions at Bingham and Paviors Rugby Clubs, as well as local leisure centres, so to now have such a popular programme on our home ground is brilliant to see. It also helps introduce rugby to children at a much younger age than would have happened previously.

“I’d also like to thank our sponsors at Hall-Fast Industrial Supplies and Rushcliffe Borough Council for continuing to back this ever-expanding and successful project.”

The sessions will continue to take place weekly, at Lady Bay Sports Ground (NG2 5AA), every Saturday for the next six weeks, between 22nd April and 3rd June. The cost is just £2 per session, per child.
